Trust and truth .. it's not all it's cracked up to be!

I trusted an individual I thought was my friend.  He lied to my face.  In retrospect, he told me what I wanted to hear and I, being naive of the complexities and legalities of the situation and the wiles and depths of the person, trusted what he said on face value.  Why would he lie to me?  He said all the right things to get what he wanted.

His lie cost me $525 and another disappointment in my fellow human beings.  As stated above, I was under the impression this person was a friend.  I was incredibly wrong.  Lying to me is one thing but lying to my face adds another dark layer of intention.  His intent was malicious, insidious and harmful to me, emotionally and financially.  I can only hope that the "cosmic hammer of justice" (my son's term) will seek its due from this person.  For now, I need to let it go... a sadder and hopefully wiser person.

I'm reminded of the movie, "You've Got Mail."  The dialogue goes something like this:

Tom: It's business, it's not personal.
Meg:  I'm so sick of that.  It was personal to me.

Seriously .. why am I so trusting?  I've been burned more times than I can count and yet I remain a trusting soul.  Only God knows the reason.
